6th Agile Stuttgart
Open Space on Agile Topics
at the Wizemann Areal in Stuttgart
On March 1, 2024, over 70 participants joined a vibrant exchange forum on agile work in an Open Space format—covering topics from AI and large-scale project structuring to change management. It was inspiring to connect with so many engaged people, sharing insights on Agile Working, Product Development, New Work, Leadership, and Organization. These interactions spark fresh ideas and new directions.
I led a session on decision-making, a crucial factor for empowering self-directed teams. Few organizational topics impact team morale, quality of outcomes, and efficiency as deeply as decision-making, yet it is often overlooked in daily routines. As the question often arises: *“They can decide, so why don’t they take responsibility?”*
What Empowers Teams to Make Decisions?
It involves structuring:
- Clarity, Transparency, and Reliability of the decision-making framework within which a team can, may, and wants to decide.
- Acceptance and Assurance of Decision Impact, as hoping for effectiveness is not enough.
- The Team’s Capacity for Collaborative Decisions to build sustainable competence and foster confidence over time.
Leadership’s Essential Role
Some decisions cannot be made by teams alone. Leadership must bear certain contradictions, as transparency matters here too: teams often accept difficult decisions more readily when the decision-making process is clear.
Building transparency, commitment, and reliability is a continuous journey, demanding both time and dedication.
